George Nick passed away Monday [February 2, 1942] morning in the Spencer hospital. Mr. Nick failed to recover from an operation for ulcers. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 3, 1942)

Note: the gravestone reads 1941 for year of death
