Mrs. Michael Zelinsky Laid to Rest Sunday
Meta Katherine Zelinsky, nee Johnsen, was born in Germany, February 17, 1865. In early infancy she was baptized in the name of the Triune God, Father, son and Holy Ghost and later received into communicant membership of the Ev. Lutheran church by the rite of confirmation. She has been a faithful member of the Lutheran church unto her death.She came to America in September of 1891. She was united in holy wedlock in October of the same year to Michael Zelinsky and settled at Portsmouth, Iowa. Five children were born to this union, three sons and two daughters. Her oldest son, John, preceded her in death.
In 1913 she came with her family to Emmet county east of Terril and in 1936 they retired to a home in Terril.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Michael Zelinsky, four children: Fred of Estherville, Alfred of Indianola; Lillie, Mrs. Glenn Portow of Steward and Emma, Mrs. Otto Hansen of Terril. There are also fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren and many other friends and relatives.
Grandmother Zelinsky has been more or less confined to her home and bed since 1936. About six weeks ago she suffered a fractured leg from a fall in her home. She was taken to an Estherville hospital and then to the St. Joseph hospital in Sioux City. About two weeks ago her condition grew worse when she suffered a stroke.
Mrs. Zelinsky died Friday morning, August 31 at 4:25 o’clock at the St. Joseph hospital at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 14 days.
The funeral services were held at the Lutheran church Sunday afternoon with the pastor, W. Schultz, in charge. The body was laid to rest in Fairview cemetery. [According to cemetery records, Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville.] (Terril Record, Terril, IA, September 6, 1945)
