Elmer Nelson rites Monday at Swea City
Swea City – Elmer C. Nelson, 72, died suddenly at his home here early Friday. Born Sept. 5, 1888, in Essex, Iowa, he was married in 1911 to Ruby Davis. She died in 1943 and in 1945 he was married to Mrs. Ida Hurlburt.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Marvin, San Diego; Keith, Estherville; a daughter, Mrs. Mancil (Ruth) Hurlburt, Swea City; nine grandchildren, three sisters and a brother.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Barnes Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church. The Rev. W.A. Parmer will officiate. (Mason City Globe Gazette, Mason City, IA, July 15, 1960)

Elmer Nelson of Swea City Dies Suddenly
Swea City – Elmer C. Nelson, 71, died Friday morning after a sudden illness. He became ill at 10 p.m. Thursday, and died at 3 a.m. the following day.

Mr. Nelson was born Sept. 5, 1888, at Essex, Iowa. He was married to Ruby Davis Jan 18, 1911 and she preceded him in death in March, 1943. Mr. Nelson married Mrs. Ida Hurlburt in 1945 and she survives.

The Nelsons lived in the Terril-Estherville area for 40 years. He built a home in Swea City a few years ago and has spent his winters here and farmed at Terril. Last winter the Nelsons were in Florida. The couple enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and had done much of this work.

Survivors include Mrs. Nelsion, a daughter, Mrs. Mancil (Ruth) Hurlburt of Swea City; two sons, Keith of Estherville and Marvin of San Diego; nine grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Methodist Church in Swea City. Burial was at Oak Hill cemetery at Estherville. (Algona Upper Des Moines, Algona, IA, July 19, 1960)
