Death of Ole S. Wold
Ole S. Wold passed away Thursday evening, October 6th, at 7:20. The deceased had suffered with rheumatism the past two years, but this summer was much better. On Monday previous to his death he was about his home as usual doing some repair work on his wagon box and was very anxious to getting this done, going out after supper to finish it saying, “I want to finish it and can write tonight.”

In the evening he was taken sick and gradually grew worse until the end came. The funeral was held from his home in Swan Lake township Sunday, Oct. 9, 1904, being conducted by Rev. Strand and Rev. Riche.

Ole S. Wold was born in Hardanger, Norway, Aug. 5, 1831. His age was 74 years, two months and one day. He emigrated to this country with his parents in 1846 to Boone county, Ill., living there six years, then moving to Allamakee county, Iowa, residence eighteen years. At the age of twenty-two years was married to Margaret Espeset. To them were born eleven children. The deceased has left to mourn his loss, a wife and seven children, Belle, Knuet, Arnt, Theodore, Lewis, Mrs. L. A. Shifflett, (nee Tilda Wold), Otto and one brother, John S. Wold of Decorah, Ia., and two sisters, Mrs. Hans Knudson of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. C. Anderson of Emmet county, Iowa, and four grandchildren.

In 1870 the deceased moved to Decorah, Ia., and engaged in general merchandise business for two years. Then moving to Woodbury county, Ia., six years living on the farm and three years in general merchandise business in Sioux City, Ia., moving to Emmet county, Ia., at the time the first railroads were building to Estherville and living on the farm until his death. The deceased was a member of the Lutheran church until his death. All were present at the funeral except Belle, Otto and Mrs. L.A. Shifflett, of Langdon, N.Dak., who arrived too late to be present at the funeral, owing to the carelessness of the telegraph company in failing to deliver the message promptly. Mrs. Hans Knudson also was not present at the funeral. Interment was made in Swan Lake township cemetery. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, October 12, 1904)
