Estherville – Funeral services for Lawrence M. Jensen, 91, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 23 at the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville with the Rev. W. Willis Longer officiating. Interment will be made at Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville. He died on Friday, September 20 at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 22 with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

He was born on April 19, 1905 in Lost Island, the son of Henry N. and Anna (Christensen) Jensen. He attended a rural county school near their farm until 1916 when the family moved to a farm near Estherville. He attended the Estherville schools until finishing the eighth grade. He worked with his father in the farm and dairy business until his father started a small feed and flour store in Estherville in 1925. He became a partner in the business which was known as H.N. Jensen and Sons, Inc. In 1928 the company started making its own brand of feeds which was called Golden Sun Feeds where he was in charge of production, construction and bookkeeping for the company.

He was united in marriage to Minnie “Dottie” Scott in Estherville on May 1, 1934. In 1937 he and his brother bought out their father’s interest in the company and he continued to work in the same capacity until the brothers sold their interest in the company to John Morrell and Co. He continued with Morrell until 1970, when he retired after 45 years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served on the Session and Board of Trustees. He was a past member of the Estherville City Council and served on the City Zoning Board.He was a member of the Estherville Board of Education and served as president. He was one of the instigators to reactivate the Emmet County Fair and served on the fair board.

He served on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Grain and Feed Association and on the Board of Directors of Dubuque University. He was a life member of the Modern Woodmen of America and Knights of Pythias lodges.

He was a past Master of North Star Lodge 447 AF and AM at Estherville. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, Esdraelon Commandry of Knights of Templar, Jeptha Chapter and Abu-bekr Temple at Sioux City.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John (Nora) Weyl of Burlington; Mrs. Duane (Sarah “Sally”) Hoick of Spencer; one son, Edward Jensen of Wallows, Ore.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sisters, Mrs. Don (Edna) Woodley of Estherville and one brother, Herman Jensen of Okoboji.

He was preceded in death by his wife, who died on March 10, 1993; his parents and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 21, 1996)
