Mrs. Ralph Hartman Dies
Mrs. Ralph Hartman, 71, former Estherville and Gruver area resident who had lived for the past 10 years at Miami, Okla., died yesterday at 9 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital. Mrs. Hartman had been in failing health for the past 15 years and had been seriously ill for the past eight months. About a month ago she was brought by plane from Miami to Holy Family Hospital for medical care. Immediate cause of death was determined as a heart condition.

Erma Koch was born Aug. 15, 1889 at Moville, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Koch. She received her elementary and high school education in the Moville and Ida Grove schools and later attended Drake University in Des Moines.

Prior to her marriage on May 27, 1919 at Le Mars to Ralph Hartman, she taught school at Walla Walla, Wash., and at Radcliffe. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Hartman lived first at Sioux Falls, S.D., and in 1922 moved to a farm north of Gruver where they continued to live until 1950 when they moved to Miami, Okla.

Mrs. Hartman was a member of the First Methodist Church at Miami.

She is survived by her husband; one son, Floyd of Miami, Okla.; four daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Maxine) Niven of Dunedin, Fla.; Mrs. Francis (Jessie) Haar of Ruthven; Mrs. Floyd (Virginia) Egner of Lakefield, Minn.; Mrs. Frank (Genevieve) Fuss of Estherville; 16 grandchildren; one brother, Austin Koch of Ida Grove; and two sisters Mrs. Persis Settlemyer of Tujunga, Calif.; and Mrs. Arthur Grouell of Galva.

Mrs. Hartman was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Funeral services are to be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in First Methodist Church, the Rev. William R. Noland officiating. Burial is to be in Oak Hill cemetery. Friends may call at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home until noon Tuesday at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services. The casket will not be opened after the service.

Active pallbearers are to be Ed Shirley, Irwin Ricke, Eilner Hansen, William Klingbeil of Starbuck, Minn., William T. Nielsen and Wayne West.

Honorary pallbearers have been named as Dr. J.P. Clark, Elmer Henaman, Dr. H.L. McMillan, George Calhan, Lawrence Ricke and John Higgins.

A memorial fund has been established for the heart fund. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 22, 1960)
