Kenneth Harding Dies; Rites Set
Kenneth Harding, 65, longtime Emmet County resident and former county supervisor, died yesterday shortly after 1 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital where he had been a patient since Monday. His death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. Harding, who came to Emmet County in 1920 and settled on a farm near Ringsted, served as a county supervisor for two terms. Since retiring from farming and moving to Estherville in 1947, he had been in the insurance business.

Born Sept. 6, 1897 in West Liberty, Ill., he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Harding. He grew to manhood and received his education in the county schools there.

Five years after moving to Ringsted, Mr. Harding was married on Jan. 13, 1925 to Vesta Gardner here in Estherville. Next Sunday would have been their 38th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Harding, after their marriage farmed in the Ringsted area where both were active in community affairs. After retirement and moving to Estherville in 1947, they lived in town for several years and later built a home on Highway 9 west of town.

Mr. Harding was a longtime member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Marvis) Lundgren of Ringsted, Mrs. Worthie (Helen) Usher of Laverne; five grandchildren; a brother, Lester of Fayetteville, N.C.; and three sisters, Mrs. Wright Marshall, West Salem, Ill., Mrs. Bryan Evans, Leander, Tex., and Mrs. Norris Shyrock, Ringsted.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.

Last rites for Mr. Harding are to be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church, the Rev. William R. Noland and the Rev. J.H. Miller, former Methodist pastor at Graettinger, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home from this evening until noon Saturday at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services. The casket will not be opened after the services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 10, 1963)
