Estherville – Services for Miss Emma Marie Gaarde, 83, Estherville, will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Estherville Lutheran Church with the Rev. Stan Eyberg officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Miss Gaarde was fatally injured Tuesday evening in a car-truck crash three miles north of Estherville on Iowa Highway 4.

Friends may call at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville, until noon Friday, when the body will be taken to the church.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Gaarde, she was born Dec. 8, 1893, in rural Estherville. She attended grade school in Armstrong and attended St. Clara Academy and St. Clara College, Sinsinawa, Wisc.

Miss Gaarde continued her study of the violin with Ludwig Becker of the Chicago Symphony and the Columbia School of Music. She toured the United States and Canada as a violin soloist with Lyceum Chautauqua and Ridpath Chautauqua, Chicago. She also studied the violin with Louis Wolff of the Minneapolis Symphony and the Minneapolis College of Music.

She later taught at the college as well as playing professionally and conducting and playing in string ensembles in Minneapolis. Mrs. [Miss] Gaarde earned a degree in public school music which added a dimension of reaching and interesting young people in music. She taught music in private schools in many Iowa and Minnesota communities and also gave private violin lessons.

Miss Gaarde was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church, Wa-Tan-Ye Club and Mu Phi Epsilon Professional Music Sorority.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Manthe and Mrs. Delbert (Bertha) Hinsch, both of Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 28, 1977)
