Death at 73 in Virginia for Egertson
Severt [Sever] T. Egertson, 73, life-time resident of Estherville and head bank examiner of Federal Reserve of Chicago for the state of Iowa, died yesterday afternoon in the Northern Virginia Doctor’s Hospital at Arlington, Va.

He had been hospitalized for about two weeks recently but had returned home. Yesterday he became ill and was taken to the hospital shortly before his death.

Mr. and Mrs. Egertson went to Alexandria, Va. the latter part of the November to spend the winter months and be near their sons and families.

He had been in the banking examining business most of his life, starting as a state banking examiner in 1923 and continuing in that position until 1940,when he was named by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago as head examiner of the state of Iowa.

Mr. Egertson retired from his post in May, 1957 and was employed by Iowa Trust and Savings Bank of Estherville until Jan. 1, 1964.

Born Feb. 17, 1892 at the family homestead in Twelve-Mile Lake Township, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Egertson.

He attended rural schools in Twelve-Mile Lake township and the former Estherville Business College. He first entered banking circles when he began working at the Estherville State Bank, where he was employed until it closed in 1923.

He was married May 19, 1922, to Vera Coleman.

Mr. Egertson had been a member of First Presbyterian church since 1919 and served as an elder and clerk of session of the church in1956 and 1964.

He is survived by his widow and two sons, Coleman and Jack bot of Alexandria, Va.; and four grandchildren, Eric, Amy, Molly and John.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Henry and Ed.

Funeral services are scheduled Monday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at Fuhrman Funeral Home all day Sunday until Monday at 9 a.m. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 28, 1966)
