Estherville – Services for John F. Lyman, 91, of Estherville will be held today, Monday, June 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home with Dr. John Besore III officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery in Estherville. He died Friday, June 9 at the Good Samaritan Center.

Visitation was held Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born on June 1, 1904 in Estherville, the son of George and Anna (Montgomery) Lyman and attended Estherville schools. He was united in marriage to L. Bernice Symens on September 23, 1982 at Sioux Falls, S.D. He lived his entire life in Estherville and owned and operated Lyman Oil Company, Estherville L.P. Gas Co. and the Napa Auto Parts Store for many years. In the 1950s, he served as an Estherville City Councilman. The couple spent their summers on Spirit Lake for over 40 years. They have lived at the Good Samaritan Center for the past three years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. David (Ann) Murphy of Spirit Lake; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one sister, Kathryn Lyman of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 12, 1995)
