Former Fostoria Man Dies Unexpectedly at Morrell Packing Co.
A former Fostoria area resident, Howard Ashburn, 51, of Estherville, died unexpectedly while at work Monday [March 4, 1963] at the John Morrell Packing Co.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, today, at 2 pm. in the Presbyterian Church at Estherville with interment also made in Estherville.

Survivors include his wife, a son, David, medical technology and nursing student at Des Moines Methodist Hospital; a daughter, DeEtt, a student at a business college in Des Moines; and a sister, Mrs. John (Edna) Keenan of Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son. (Milford Mail and Terril Record, Milford, IA, March 7, 1963)

Howard Ashburn Rites Today
Howard Ashburn of Estherville died suddenly Monday morning while at work at the Tobin Packing Plant in that town. Cause of death is given as a heart attack. He was 51 years, ten months and 13 days of age.

Born at Greenville, he grew to young manhood at Fostoria. He went to Estherville in 1935 and started working in the packing plant where he died.

He was married in 1938 to Margaret Umbarger of Lake Park, and continued to make their home in Estherville.

Surviving besides his wife, is a daughter, deEtt who is attending a business school in Des Moines, and a son who is training as a male nurse in Des Moines; and one sister of Clear Lake. His parents, a son, and one brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon, March 7 at 2 o’clock in the Presbyterian church at Estherville, with the pastor Rev. James Lyon officiating. (Lake Park News, Lake Park, IA, March 7, 1963)
