Simpson Services Thursday
James Robert Simpson, 63, rural Estherville, died at 2 p.m. May 14, 1973, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm. Thursday at the Christian Church with the Rev. Robert K. Miller officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Estherville, after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Simpson was born Aug. 24, 1909, in Calhoun County to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Simpson. He was educated in Terril schools. On Sept. 14, 1929, he was married to Virginia Swanson in Spirit Lake.

He lived in the Estherville community all of his married life, having been an auctioneer at the Spirit Lake sale barn from 1948-55; a deputy sheriff in 1956-57 in Emmet County and a contractor and farmer until 1964 when he retired to his present home. He was a member of the Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia of rural Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Gloria) Mortensen, North Ridge, Calif.; one son, Robert J. Simpson, Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren; two brothers Everett Simpson, Isle, Minn., and Leo Simpson, Alexandria; two sisters, Mrs. Edward Schnell, Terril, and Mrs. David Hayward, Circle City, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Joan, in 1939, and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 15, 1973)
