Maurice Salyers Services Held Today in Estherville
Maurice Howard Salyers, 70, Estherville, died Friday evening, Dec. 22, 1972 at Holy Family Hospital.Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Estherville, with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Interment was in East Side Cemetery.
Mr. Salyers was born May 25, 1902, at Estherville to Isaac and Laura Ann Leak Salyers. He was educated in Estherville schools and attended Estherville Junior College. He was married to Elizabeth Batman Jan. 12, 1929 at Ames.
He was an electrician and also served as a justice of the peace for many years and a police judge for six years.
He was a member of the Christian Church, the American Legion, the V.F.W., Forty and Eight, North Star Lodge of Estherville, Royal Arch, Knights Templer Commandery, Order of Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Consistory of Sioux City, Abu-Bekr Shrine and had been a member of the Elks Lodge of Estherville.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, one son, Joe Salyers of Beverly Hills, Calif.; one grandson; one brother, Lewis Salyers of Estherville. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers were Ward Fletcher, Bill Robinson, Edward Meehan, Clifford Hedrick, Harris Myers and Francis Solmonson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 26, 1972)
