Rites Set for Paul Salyers
Paul Andrew Salyers, 69, died at 9:15 a.m. Sunday [February 9, 1969] at his home at Orleans. He had been in failing health for the past year.Salyers was born June 17, 1899, in Estherville, the son of Isaac N. and Laura Anne Salyers. He received his education in Estherville schools.
On June 27, 1936, he was married to Alice Carey at Jordan, Minn. They moved to Estherville after their marriage, and then, in 1943 they moved to Boone. He was a conductor on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad.
When he retired in 1961 they moved to Orleans.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, and at the time of his death, was Justice of the Peace at Orleans.
As a member of the Christian Church he had been a leading elder, a teacher and officer, her and at Boone.
He is survived by his wife at Orleans, a daughter, Mrs. Francis Connor of Philadelphia; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Lewis E. and Maurice, both of Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and three brothers.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Reese-Henry Chapel in Estherville, the Rev. Robert Karl Miller officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 11, 1969)
