Dr. Rugtiv Has Fatal Heart Attack
Dr. Arthur Norman Rugtiv, 29, popular young Estherville dentist, died suddenly this morning at 6:30 of a heart attack at his home. Dr. Rugtiv had a heart ailment since suffering rheumatic fever when a small boy but he had been in apparent good health last night and the fatal attack came on suddenly this morning.Funeral arrangements have not been completed as yet pending word from members of the Rugtiv family living at a distance.
Dr. Rugtiv was born Nov. 5, 1925, at Orleans, Minn., and came to Estherville with his parents when a young child. He received his elementary and high school education in the local schools, graduating from high school in 1943, and attended one year of Junior College here.
He attended the University of Iowa where he graduated from the college of dentistry in 1949. That same year he bought the practice of Dr. William Hart and has been practicing dentistry here since.
Dr. Rugtiv was married on Jun 20, 1954 to Barbara Weigand of Greene, a former Estherville school teacher.
Dr. Rugtiv was a member of the Estherville Lutheran church. He also was prominent in civic activities, being a member of the Kiwanis Club, Junior and Senior Chambers of Commerce, the Quarterback club and on the board of directors of the Estherville Golf and Country Club.
He is survived by his widow, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Rugtiv of Estherville; one brother, Dr. George Rugtiv of Los Altos, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Gudrum) Pierce of Mountain View, Calif., and Mrs. L.H. (Dorothy) Schmidt of Indianapolis, Ind., and his grandmother, Mrs. Christine Anderson of Poplar, Mont. Two sisters, Margaret and Elene, and one brother, Donald, preceded him in death. Dr. Rugtiv’s Funeral Rites to Be Held Tuesday
Funeral services for Dr. Arthur Norman Rugtiv, 29, Estherville dentist who died of a heart attack yesterday morning, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Estherville Lutheran church. The body will lie in state at the church from11:15 a.m. Tuesday until time of services. Friends may call at the Sternborg Funeral Home from Sunday noon through Monday evening. The Rev. L.G. Hinderaker will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Eastside cemetery. The family requests that if there are memorials, contributions go the Cub Scout program sponsored by the Kiwanis Club in which Dr. Rugtiv was an active worker for several years.Pallbearers will be John Rugtiv, Roger Young, Richard Danielson, Verlyn DeWall, Arnold Mourtisen and Daniel Sanderson.
