James F. Ramsey of Gruver Dies
James Francis Ramsey, 84, a farmer in the Gruver community since 1915, died at Holy Family hospital here last night.Ramsey suffered a stroke about a month ago. He made a partial recovery, but was brought to the hospital here about ten days before his death. Ramsey had been a semi-invalid for about 19 years suffering from heart trouble to the extent that he could do little work during that period.
Ramsey was born in Livingston county, Illinois on April 6, 1867. He attended school in Blackstone, Ill., and then started farming at Grand Ridge, Ill. He moved from Grand Ridge to a farm north of Gruver in 1915 and remained on the farm there until six years ago when he moved to Gruver.
Ramsey was married twice. His first wife was Harriett Simpson who died soon after their marriage. He was later married to Rose Andrews who is still living at Gruver. He attended the Presbyterian church in Gruver.
Ramsey is survived by eight children; two by his first marriage and six by his second marriage. They are Guy of Estherville and Mrs. Peter (Grace) Sorgenfrie of Blue Earth, Minn. from the first marriage and William, Lester, Gus and Frank, all of Estherville and Mrs. William Higinbotham of Estherville and Isabelle who is living at home with her mother.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday afternoon at the home and at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian church in Gruver. Rev. Henry McMican will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Eastside cemetery in Gruver.
Friends may call at the Sandin funeral home Saturday evening and Sunday until 2 p.m. after which the body will be taken to the home in Gruver. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 14, 1951)
