Chas. Pullen Meets Accidental Death Funeral Thursday
A very peculiar accident caused the death of Charles Pullen last Monday afternoon. He resided on the Edna Barker farm south of this city. Some trees were being felled on the farm. Mr. Pullen was standing about thirty feet from the but of one of the trees when it was falling. As the tree fell over Mr. Pullen stepped close to another tree. It seems the tree in falling crashed over on top of another tree. A big limb sprung off of the tree as it struck. It flew back with such force that it knocked Mr. Pullen down when it struck him in the head. He was unconscious for a few minutes and he then arose and walked to his home. A few minutes later he again became unconscious and was rushed to the Birney hospital where he died a short time later.

Mr. Pullen was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Pullen, pioneers of this county. He was born and reared in this county and city. He attended our public schools and after his school days were over he became engaged in farming.

Mr. Pullen was reserved and not inclined to do anything to obtain any publicity. He had a mind of his own and entertained his own opinions on all political and financial questions. He was a diligent worker and a great lover of home. We have known him since boyhood and attended public schools with him. He was a man of whom all had a high opinion.

He is survived by his wife and two brothers, Tom and Glenn.

The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at two o’clock from the home with the Rev. Yearnd of the Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the East Side Cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 11, 1932)

Obituary are Charles Pullen
Charles Pullen was born March 26, 1880. His death occurred on Monday, May 9, 1932. His entire life was spent in Emmet County. On November 12 he was united in marriage with Anna May Chamber and together they moved to a farm south of Estherville where their seventeen years of happy married life was spent. Mr. Pullen’s greatest concern was always for the welfare of his life’s companion. To be honest, kind and good was his greatest aim. However, he possessed the courage of his convictions and strongly contended for what he thought was right. He was a firm believer in the Farmer’s Union principles and was loyal and faithful to its cause. As president of this local organization he was the first Emmet County Farm Union member to hold a life membership. Mr. Pullen also greatly enjoyed the Country Club gatherings of friends and neighbors in his community. Both organizations will sorely miss his presence and his cheery greetings.

His church preference was the Baptist faith and he was baptized in his youth. Mr. Pullen was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. George Pullen and one sister, Rosa. Besides his widow, three brothers are left to mourn his sudden passing, Glenn and Tom of Estherville and Frank of Sparta, Wisconsin.

“They are His billows, and he brings us through them;
So he has promised, so His love will do.
Keeping and leading, guiding and upholding,
To His sure harbor, He will bring us through.”
(Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 18, 1932)
