Obituary Marion Paul Nelson
Marion Paul Nelson was the son of Alfred and Alice Nelson was born on a farm near Gruver, Iowa, Dec. 16th, 1918. He was baptized at the Gruver Presbyterian church, June 11, 1922. His entire life was spent in the vicinity of Gruver and Maple Hill. At the time of his accidental death he was a member of the freshman class of the Maple Hill high school He was a boy of happy disposition and enjoyed many friendships. A lover of home he was always willing to undertake any task assigned. On Tuesday evening, September 13th, while on an errand the pony he was riding was thrown by a wire which in encountered and Marion was thrown to the ground, striking his head. He was taken to the Coleman hospital and everything which medical skill and care could do was done in his behalf but to no avail, and he passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 13 years, 8 months and 28 days. His passing is mourned by his parents, five brothers, Wallace, Kenneth, Lester, Donald and John, and two sisters, Doretha and Gladys besides many relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Sept. 16th, at 2 p.m. from the home and at 2:30 p.m. from the Maple Hill Presbyterian church, the Rev. Arthur Bailey officiating. Pallbearers were chosen from the class of which Marion was a member and the student body of the Maple Hill school attended. Interment was made in the family lot at the East Side cemetery at Estherville. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 20, 1932)
