Estherville – Services for Edna Moritz, 87, of Estherville, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Arlyn Norris and Pastor Jane Johnston officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. She died Tues., Aug. 4, 1998, at Holy Family Health Services.Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. until noon, Saturday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home.
She was born June 30, 1911, at Esbjerg, Denmark, the daughter of Christian and Marie (Schmidt) Jorgensen. In May 1913, the family came to the United States on the White Star Liner, Megantic. They settled on a farm near Fairmont, Minn. in Rolling Green Twp. She attended Martin Co. Public School District #12 and District #21 and graduated in 1926. On Aug. 15, 1933, she married Hans Moritz at Clear Lake. They worked on a dairy farm near Granada, Minn., and later moved to a 210-acre farm near Estherville where they started Mortiz Jersey Dairy. They bottled and delivered milk to many Estherville residents. Following her husband’s death in Dec. 1946 she remained on the farm with her six sons. Her sister assisted in raising the family. She worked several years selling subscriptions to Farm Journal to help raise money for a workshop for the disabled in Emmet Co. She also worked in the dining room at John Morrell & Co. In 1962 she was selected Mother of the Year in Estherville.
She was an active member of Estherville Lutheran Church, ELCW, Hannah Circle, Sunday school and Bible School teacher, was a member of the Triple E Club and served on the East Side Cemetery Association.
Survivors include sons: Pastor Robert of Hadley, Minn.; Ronald and Dale of Estherville; Kenneth of Slayton, Minn., Leonard, Washington, D.C. and James of Lilydale, Minn., 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one sister, Martha Jorgensen, Fairmont.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, infant daughter, two sisters and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 6, 1998)
