George Meiners Rites Friday Afternoon
Gruver – Funeral services for George R. Meiners, 76, Gruver, will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Gruver Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Neal Armstrong officiating and burial in the Estherville East Side Cemetery. He had passed away Tuesday [January 7, 1975] night at Holy Family Hospital.Mr. Meiners was born Jan. 26, 1898 in Ashkun, Ill., to Mr. and Mrs. Reimer Meiners. At the age of 10 he moved with his family to the Ringsted area where he attended country schools.
On Nov. 15, 1922 he was united in marriage to Virgie Miner and they farmed in the Ringsted area until 1944 when they moved to a farm in the Gruver area. He retired from farming in 1965 and in 1969 they moved to Gruver.
Mr. Meiners had been a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church, a member of the Senior Citizens’ Group and a longtime member of the Farm Bureau. He and his wife had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary two years ago.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Jerry, Lone Rock; one daughter, Mrs. Lester (Marjorie) Bethke, Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Irwin (Ethel) Wichman, Milwaukee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
