Mary Ellen Corkery the daughter of Daniel and Katherine (Rafferty) Corkery was born June 27, 1909, in Olwein, Iowa and departed this life on Thursday, March 3, 2005, at her daughter's home in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 95 years.

She received her education in the Oelwein, Iowa Schools.

On April 2, 1941, she was united in marriage to Chris Gifford in Oelwein. After their marriage, the couple moved to Estherville. Chris managed Anthony's Department Store for over thirty years and Mary also worked there. Mr. Gifford died in 1995.

She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society in Estherville.

Left to cherish Mary's memory are her children, Dr. Christopher Gifford III and his wife, Virginia of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Cathleen Bonstead and her husband, Steve of Sioux City, Iowa and six grandchildren, Kyle; Kellon; Kurt; Michael; Elizabeth and David.

Mary has been preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and three brothers.
