Grace Fothergill, the daughter of George and Sarah (Harrison) Fothergill was born November 6, 1910, in Armstrong, Iowa and departed this life on Friday, February 17, 1995, at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 11 days.

She received her education in the Armstrong schools graduating from Armstrong High School. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Grace was employed at Iowa Trust and Savings Bank in Estherville prior to her marriage. On November 24, 1934 she was united in marriage to Ted Schacherer at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. The couple lived on farms in rural Emmet County until moving into Estherville in 1960. Grace was employed at Holy Family Hospital for many years.

She was a long standing member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville, Catholic Daughters of America, a charter member of Queen of Peace and a member of the Emmet County Historical Society.

Mrs. Schacherer is survived by her husband, Ted; four sons, Bill Schacherer and his wife, Sharon; Jim Schacherer and his wife, Janet; Bob Schacherer and his wife, Rita of Knoxville, Iowa; four daughters, Joan Swanson and her husband, Eldon of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; Rose Lea Tonderum and her husband, Ron of Sioux City, Iowa; Theresa Ghazi and her husband, Parviz of St. Paul, Minnesota; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. She has been preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Marvin, Floyd and Glen; two sisters, Blanche and Harriet; and one granddaughter, Mary Jane. (MC)
