Danny Lee Gronbeck, the son of Peter N.E. and Wanda (Sundall) Gronbeck was born November 20, 1947, in Algona, Iowa and departed this life on Friday, July 22, 2005, at the Lakes Regional Health Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa, at the age of 57 years old.
He received his education in the Algona, Emmetsburg and Terril schools. Dan served in the United States Army during Vietnam as a Military Police from January 1967 till January 1969. He continued his education attending Iowa Lakes Community College and later Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.

On August 10, 1969, he was united in marriage to Regina Sheridan in Emmetsburg, Iowa. After their marriage the couple made their home in Estherville. Dan worked for the Estherville Police Department from 1969 till 1976. Then the Emmet County Sheriff Department for several years and served as Emmet County Sheriff from 1980 till 1988. Later he was employed at Crystal Tips in Spirit Lake and most recently Polaris.

He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3388 and American Legion Post #91 both of Estherville. For hobbies, he enjoyed NASCAR, his dog, Snuggles, fishing and especially attending his grandchildren’s activities.

Left to cherish Dan's memory is his wife, Regina of Estherville; daughters, Danyelle Swanson and her husband, Corey of Lakefield, Minnesota; Amber Schilling and her husband, Jay of Estherville; Natasha Markman and her husband, Ben of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren, Ashley, Andrea, Carissa, Jayden, Jordan, Logan, Hannah, Kenlee; mother, Wanda Peglow of Emmetsburg, Iowa; sister, Karen McEwan and her husband, Roger of Cylinder, Iowa; brothers, Peter Joe Gronbeck and his wife, Rosemary of Emmetsburg; Kirby Gronbeck and his wife, Janet of Egan, Minnesota; mother-in-law, Ellen Sheridan of Estherville; and also by several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers and friends.

Preceding Dan in death are his father; father-in-law, Robert W. Sheridan and step-father, Donald Peglow. (MC)
