Final Service Are Held for Estherville Man
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today for William Gibb McIlwraith, 82, who died at 4:50 p.m. Friday [May 2, 1969] at Holy Family Hospital where he had been admitted following a heart attack.Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at Fuhrman Funeral Home, and a requiem mass was said this morning at St. Patrick’s church, Msgr. James H. Duhigg officiating. Burial was in St. Patrick’s cemetery.
Pallbearers were Richard Alexander, Keith Griffith, Clifford Hunt, Harold Lange, Leonard Roberts and E.G. Stavros.
William Gibb McIlwraith, son of John and Jean McIlwraith was born June 16, 1886, in Tama county, Iowa.
He received his education in the schools of Dinsdale, Iowa.
He was married Aug. 31, 1911, to Margaret Cooper at Reinbeck, and in 1922 they moved to Dolliver. They later lived in Estherville. Mrs. McIlwraith died in 1943.
On Nov. 8, 1952, he was married to Kathleen Miler of Estherville.
Mr. McIlwraith was a member of St. Patrick’s church.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, a son, James C. McIlwraith of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mrs. Herman (Marian) Crabtree of Marathon, Wis., and Mrs. Lloyd (Wilma) Watland of Estherville; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Thomas (Janet) Mutch of Detroit, Mich. He has been preceded in death by his first wife, one daughter, and his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 5, 1969)
