Albert Gillett Succumbs to Major Surgery
Death came to a long time resident, Albert R. Gillett, last Saturday [November 8, 1947] night at Holy Family Hospital. Mr. Gillett had apparently been in good health but was taken to the hospital for an appendicitis operation. It was found the appendix had ruptured and at the age of 78 he was unable to overcome the effects of the operation.

Mr. Gillett was born on August 23, 1869 [per cemetery records & stone, 1870], in Cedar Rapids where he resided and received his education. He was connected with the Rock Island Ry. until his retirement. He came to this city in 1916. The year following he was united in marriage to Olga D. Anderson. They have been residents of this city since their marriage.

Mr. Gillett was well known here. He had made a host of friends in his years of residence here. He was an active member of the I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodges, and of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his widow and four daughters, Mrs. Lucille Bahr, Mr. Elmer Henningson and Mrs. Lloyd Mitchell of Estherville and Virginia, connected with government service in Japan. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 13, 1947)
