John J. Sullivan 1873-1928

SULLIVAN, CONWAY, MURPHY, CROWLEY, BROWN, BRENNAN

John J. Sullivan, 58 years old, brother of Frank Sullivan and Mrs. T. J. Conway of this city, died at a local hospital, Monday morning, Dec. 31, following a long illness of a complication of diseases. Mr. Sullivan came to Estherville in 1907 with his mother, Mrs. D.W. Sullivan from Palo Alto county where the family had resided for many years. During this time he had made his home with his sister Mrs. Conway. The mother passed away in 1922.

Mr. Sullivan was born at Clinton on July 20, 1873. He grew to manhood there then moved to Palo Alto county with his parents. It was after the death of his father that he came to Estherville with his mother.

He is survived by three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Conway and Frank Sullivan of Estherville, Mrs. J. E. Murphy of Clinton, Miss Agnes Sullivan of Chicago, W.H. Sullivan of Emmetsburg also six nieces and one nephew.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at nine thirty, from St. Patrick’s church, and burial made in the family lot at Ruthven. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mrs. J.E. Murphy and daughter Angela of Clinton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Sullivan and daughters Marian and Eileen of Emmetsburg, Miss Agnes Sullivan, Chicago; Mrs. Nora Crowley, Madison, Wis.; Mrs. John H. Brown and daughter Mae, Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Brennan and daughter Margaret, Mr. and Mrs. W. Brennan, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Brown, John J. Brown, all of Ruthven; Mr. and Mrs. Jas. R. Brown of Graettinger. The pall bearers were J.P. Conway, John Morrissey, F.J. King, J.P. Koster, M.C. Coady and Joe McDonald.

Mr. Sullivan was a quiet and unassuming man of many sterling qualities, a kind and loving son and brother, honest and faithful at all times. He was an upright and a faithful member of the Catholic church. He will be deeply mourned by his relatives and by a wide circle of friends.
