Died
Rex W. Littell, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Littell, died June 6, 1903.

Nine years is a long time to look forward to, but as it passes many things enter into one’s life to build and strengthen or weaken character. Rex Littell had been for more than nine years in the home of his parents and grandparents. In that time he had grown into their hearts and lives more than they ever knew, and when he had gone out of their sight forever, they realized as never before how their affections twined about him.

The funeral services, short and simple, were befitting the outgoing of a young life. The songs sung were his special favorites and were appropriate.

The form is gone but he exists, and in the softened mood that comes with these hours, may the love of friends, but especially of God, sink deep into the yearning hearts and the void of cheer and comfort, as of old, speak in the innermost recesses of their being, saying, “It is,; I be not afraid.” (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 17, 1903)

Will Littell was called home from Vinton Sunday morning by the death of his little son. He will remain here for some time. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, June 10, 1903)

Rex, the nine-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Littell of this city, died last Saturday morning from an injury received a few days before in a game of base ball. The little fellow as struck in the stomach by a ball and in fear of not getting permission to play the game again he suffered in silence for some time before informing his mother of the terrible accident. An examination was made by a local physician as to his ailment but nothing of a serious nature could be found until shortly before his death when symptoms of an obstruction was found. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon and the remains laid to rest in the Oak Hill [Per cemetery records, East Side] cemetery. This is a very sad death and the many friends of the family extend their heartfelt sympathy. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, June 10, 1903)
