Roy Blazer Dies at 81
Roy Kingman Blazer, 81, died last night Holy Family Hospital. The cause of death was attributed to complications of advanced age. He had been in failing health for several years. His condition became serious and he had been hospitalized for the past three weeks.Blazer was born Jan. 19, 1881, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Blazer, at Greenfield, Ohio. He received his education in the Spirit Lake schools. He was married to the former Alice Archer of Ruthven on June 3, 1908. He had made his home in Estherville since 1908.
Blazer was a Rock Island railroad conductor for 45 years. He retired in 1947 at the age of 68. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Jeptha Chapter and Knights Templar Consistory, Eastern Star, White Shrine and the Order of Railway Conductors. He was also a member of the First Methodist Church.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Vermaine (Harriett) Sidles, Estherville, Katherine Blazer, Danville, Ill., Mrs. Richard (Betty) Deibner, Phoenix, Ariz. And three grandchildren, Mrs. David Hoyt, Fulton, Ill., Mrs. Daniel Sims, Pomona, Calif., and Richard Deibner, Jr., Phoenix, Ariz. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Sternborg-Reese Chapel with the Rev. William R. Noland officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.
Masonic graveside services will be conducted by North Star Lodge No. 417, AF and AM.
