A.A. Bixby, 74, retired Estherville business man passed away early yesterday morning after a long illness. Recently he had been brought home from the hospital at Rochester where he had been for medical and surgical care.

Mr. Bixby was for 35 years in the meat market business in this city in partnership with his brothers. He was born in April, 1864 [per cemetery records 1863], at Underhill, Vermont, and came to Estherville in 1883.

Surviving are his widow, four brothers, R.W. Bixby, Detroit, Mich.; Archie and Charles, Estherville, and R. A. Bixby, Rock Island agent at Clear Lake, S.D.; four step-daughters, Mrs. Leo Schoonover, Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Wm. Clapp, Long Grove, Mrs. Drew Brotzman, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Guy Bradford, Austin, Minn., and a niece, Mrs. Ernest Shannon, of San Diego, Calif., whom they had raised.

Funeral services will be held at three o’clock, Thursday afternoon at the Mahlum and Anderson funeral chapel with Rev. Fred Ortmeyer in charge. Interment will be made in the East Side cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 16, 1938)
