M.R. Bender Dies From Stroke April 3rd
M.R. Bender, 53, died at 4:10 Wed. [April 10, 1946] from a stroke in Holy Family hospital. He had been in failing health for two years but had only been seriously ill since Feb. 1.

He was born Nov. 12, 1892 [Per WWI Draft Records, 1893], in Swaledale, IA., and received his education there. He had lived in Estherville nearly 30 years and was a – for the Standard Chemical Co. until he became ill. For the past year he had made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Erpelding.

He was a member of the Modern Woodman lodge.

His wife [Nellie Mae Fell Bender] preceded him in death two years ago. Surviving are two brothers, Gerald and Wayne, both of Champagne, Ill., and three sisters, Mrs. Fred Lewis of Champagne, Mrs. – Redington and Mrs. Charlie -- , both of Mason City. (Terril Record, Terril, IA, April 11, 1946)
