Estherville – Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Jane Bemis, 93, were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville. She died May 13 at the Good Samaritan Center.

The Rev. Max Goldman of the United Methodist Church officiated at the funeral services and burial was at the East Side Cemetery.

Mrs. Bemis was born Dec. 13, 1883 at Streeter, Ill. to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Davis and received her education there. She moved to Estherville when she was 18 years old and was married to Sidney E. Bemis Feb. 4, 1903 at Estherville. They lived in Estherville until 1925, in Des Moines and in Harrisburg, S.D., until his retirement when they moved to Spirit Lake. Mr. Bemis died in 1967. Mrs. Bemis had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center for five years.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Mildred) Horton, Eustis, Fla.; three grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son, Sim. L. Bemis. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 17, 1976)
