Harry Bauman, Sr., Dies, Was Father of Mrs. Henry Peterson
Harry Bauman Sr., 86, longtime resident of the Estherville area, died Saturday February 26, 1955] at the Balmer Rest Home at Estherville. Mr. Bauman was ill but a few days after suffering a stroke. He was the father of Mrs. Henry Peterson of Graettinger.

Funeral rites were held Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran church at Estherville, the Rev. William Henline officiated. Burial was in Eastside cemetery.

He was born Sept. 23, 1868 at Schleswig in Holstein, Germany and grew to manhood there. He learned the baker’s trade in Schleswig and served for three years in the German army, a compulsory service there.

Mr. Bauman was married in 1896 to Ida Hauptfleish and about two years later the couple came to the United States and settled at Lakota. There he was employed by the Rock Island Railway and after a short time was transferred to Gruver where he was section foreman for three years. From Gruver he was transferred to Estherville. Mr. Bauman operated a meat market at Estherville from 1914 through 1916 and then he and Mrs. Bauman moved to a fruit farm west of Estherville where they lived until 1946, when they retired and moved to Estherville.

Mrs. Bauman died in March, 1946 and for the past several months Mrs. Bauman had lived at the Balmer Rest Home. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Henry J. (Grace) Peterson of Graettinger; two sons, Harry Jr. of Estherville and Gus of Faribault, Minn., five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Two sisters also are among the survivors. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, March 3, 1955)
