Miss Olena Flatland who has been an invalid for some months, suffering from consumption, died Thursday evening, Oct. 21. The funeral was held from the residence of T. O. Berg, Saturday. Deceased with her sister, Miss Serena Flatland, at the close of the civil war, were the only soldier’s orphans in Emmet county, their father having died at Newbern, N.C., in 1865 from the effect to the exposures and hardships incident to a march with Sherman through the Carolinas.
