Mrs. West, 75, Dies; Rites Wednesday
Mrs. Martha E. West, 75, died yesterday afternoon in Holy Family hospital where she has been a patient since Dec. 12.

Rosary will be recited at the West home at 702 N. 6th Street at 9 p.m. Requiem high mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s church with Father J.J. Keane officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery.

Martha E. [Martha Elizabeth Taylor] West was born July 29, 1873, in Muzepa, Minn., and lived in the Estherville vicinity since 1900. During the past several years she has lived at 701 North 6th street. She was married to William West on Dec. 26, 1900.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Merle Landmesser, and one son, Arthur West, and four grandchildren. There is also one sister, Mrs. Charles Pearson of Oakland, Calif. Mrs. West was preceded in death by her husband who died 11 years ago on Dec. 11, and by three brothers, one sister and her parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 12, 1948)

Mrs. Wm. West Pioneer of County Buried Wednesday
Death came to Mrs. William [Martha Elizabeth Taylor] West, a longtime resident of Emmet County, at the Holy Family hospital last Sunday [January 11, 1948] afternoon. Mrs. West came to this county after her marriage in 1900 to William West. She was born in Mazepa, Minn. on July 29, 1873.

She has been in declining health for some time back and has been confined to the Holy Family hospital since the first part of December.

After years spent on the farm Mr. and Mrs. West moved to this city to make their home.

Funeral services were held from St. Patrick’s Church on Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock, the Rev. Father J. J. Keane officiating. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Arthur West, and one daughter, Mrs. Merle Landmesser. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 15, 1948)
