GRAETTINGER - Mass of Christian Burial for Dean Brobst, 77, of Graettinger will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger with Monsignor Michael Sernett as Celebrant. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger with Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Estherville with military honors by Nelson-Christensen Post 162 American Legion of Graettinger.

He died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Harold Dean Brobst, the son of Harold and Alice (Moffitt) Brobst, was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Palo Alto County.

He received his education in Estherville schools. Dean enlisted in the United States National Guard Army and served in Germany.

On Feb. 5, 1955, he was united in marriage to Thelma Schacherer at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville. The couple made their home in Estherville until moving to Graettinger in 1959. Dean was employed with John Morrell until he retired. He worked at Petersen Insurance until his illness. Dean enjoyed training horses, competing at horse shows, golfing and bird watching, especially eagles. He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Most important to Dean was spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the American Legion in Graettinger and also the VFW in Estherville.

Left to cherish Dean's memory are his wife, Obby, of Graettinger; children, Randy Brobst and his wife, Mary, of St. Louis, Mo., Pat Brobst and his wife, Deb, of Sioux City and Lynn Park and her husband, Scott, of Graettinger; grandchildren, Margot, Melissa, Jonathan, Hannah, Lauren, Christian, Claire, Emily and Taylor; siblings, Diane Jensen and her husband, Roger, of Council Bluffs, DeWayne Brobst and his wife, Mardella, of Estherville and Susie Mahan and her husband, Don, of Graettinger; sister-in-law, Donna Brobst, of Estherville along with many nieces and nephews.
