Mrs. Fred Parsons Dies; Rites Set
Mrs. Fred J. Parsons, 73, lifetime resident of Estherville, died sometime early Sunday morning at her home. Her death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.

Mrs. Parson’s body was discovered shortly after noon yesterday by Edgar Knutsen and Police Officer Roscoe Waterman. The Knutsens ha told Mrs. Parsons’ daughter, Betty, who was out of town for the weekend, that they would take Mrs. Parsons to church yesterday morning. Kim Knutsen called at the Parsons home for Mrs. Parsons and after being unable to get an answer and finding the doors still locked, told his parents who tried to telephone Mrs. Parsons.

After getting repeated busy signals, Edgar Knutsen went to the Parsons home and upon finding the door still locked went to the police station for help. He and Officer Waterman entered the home and found Mrs. Parsons’ body in an upstairs hall. The telephone receiver was off the hook.

The former Julia Elizabeth Sullivan was born June 15, 1889, here in Estherville, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Sullivan. She received her elementary schooling here and was graduated from a Cedar Rapids high school.

She was married April 20, 1910, to Fred G. Parsons, and Mr. and Mrs. Parsons made their home here. Mr. Parsons died Sept. 1, 1949. Betty Parsons, after her father’s death returned here from California and she and her mother continued to live in the family home at 215 N. 8th St.

Mrs. Parsons was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and was active in the work of the church and the women’s groups until time of her death. She also was active in the work of the Democratic Party and various community projects.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty of Estherville, and Mrs. Fred T. (Jeanne) Poole of Tacoma Park, Md.; one son, Fred G. Parsons, Jr., Spirit Lake; and two grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Joseph E. Sullivan, Clearwater, Fla., and William J. Sullivan, Mandan, N.D.; and two sisters, Mrs. G. T. (Mary Ellen) McKibben, Des Moines, and Mrs. F. J. (Margaret) Steiner, Armstrong.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, and one brother, John.

Funeral services for Mrs. Parsons are to be Wednesday at 9 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s cemetery.

Friends may call at Fuhrman Funeral Home all day Tuesday and until time of services on Wednesday. Rosary will be recited tomorrow at 8 p.m. at Fuhrman’s. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 8, 1963)
