Woman Dies at Age 43
Mrs. John McCarthy, 43, died at 4:23 a.m. Jan 1 at Holy Family hospital. She had been ill for a year.Joyce Reynolds McCarthy was born Nov. 6, 1923, at Maesteg, Wales, British Isles. She was the daughter of Mrs. Thomas Tibbets. Her father died before she was born.
When she was three years old she came to America with her mother and they lived near Stickney, S.D., where Mrs. McCarthy received her education.
She was married Dec. 24, 1944, to John W. McCarthy at Kokomo, Ind. They came to Estherville in June 1946. Mrs. McCarthy had been employed by the P.G. Gray Co., at Estherville and the Casa Loma.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Glen (Sandra) Sunde; four sons, Kevin, 16, Michael 11, Timothy 6, and John, a year and a half; two grandchildren, Todd and Julie Sunde; her mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Smith; and one sister, Mrs. John Richard of Rural Estherville.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s church, Msgr. James H. Duhigg, officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s cemetery.
There will be a rosary at 8 o’clock tonight at Fuhrman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be G. W. Bruett, George Gorham, Elmer Schmidtke, Leslie Cook, Marvin Dahl and Gerald Weber. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 3, 1967)
