Henry Goecke’s Rites at Estherville
Many relatives from this area attended funeral services at St. Patrick’s Church in Estherville Tuesday morning for Henry Goecke, who lived on a farm northwest of Estherville, and died Saturday [September 5, 1953] night at the hospital in Estherville. He was a brother of Mrs. Henry Otto of Carroll, Joe Goecke of Auburn and William Goecke of Spirit Lake.

Mr. Goecke was about 78 years old [Per WWI draft records, born March 22, 1895]. After his marriage to Sophie Walz, the couple farmed near Auburn, moving to Estherville later.

Mr. Goecke, who was preceded in death by his wife, is survived by the following children: Arnold, who lives in California; Leonard, Algona; Alvina, at home; Raymond, Rolfe; Mrs. Clarence (Martha) McDonald, Scranton; Agnes, who teaches at Spencer, and Vernon, who lives in Estherville and farms the home place.

Relatives from this vicinity at the rites included Mr. and Mrs. Henry Otto, who were accompanied by their daughter, Mrs. Pick of Breda; Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Hagemann, Mrs. Walter Wagner, Mrs. Frank Goecke, Mrs. Al Henrichs, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Baumhover, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Walz, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Baumhover, Mrs. Joe Baumover, Mrs. Albert Baumhover and John A. Baumhover, Carroll.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning in Estherville for Henry Goecke, father of Leonard Goecke who died Saturday. Mr. Goecke, in his late seventies, had major surgery last sprint form which he never fully recovered. In addition to the Leonard Goecke family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Goecke also attended the services. Leonard and Ed are cousins. (Algona Upper Des Moines, Algona, IA, September 10, 1953)
