Tom Doyle Dies Tuesday; Lived Here 21 Years
Was Sixty Nine Years Old – Funeral Services Held on Thursday Morning
Mr. Tom Doyle, well known and highly esteemed in Estherville, passed away Tuesday evening at nine twenty following months of intense suffering from cancer. He had been failing rapidly the past few weeks and his children and wife had been with him constantly.Mr. Doyle was born at Tipton, Iowa, on Sept. 25, 1856 and would have been 69 years old today. He was married on May 5, 1890 to Miss Margaret Meighan. On March 9 1894, they moved to Emmet county and twenty one years ago came to Estherville. Last March his health began to fail and the best of medical aid was consulted including specialists at the Mayo Hospital. It became known then that his life could last but a short time only and his family devoted their every moment to making his last days happy and as comfortable as possible. As a husband and father he had been devoted and faithful and he reaped his harvest of love in these last few months.
Mr. Doyle is survived by his wife and four daughters, Mrs. Norman Maine, Miss Josephine Doyle, Mrs. John Nolan and Mrs. Cletus Keogh. The only son, Maurice, fell in France during the World War.
Funeral services are being held tomorrow (Thursday) at 10 o’clock from St. Patrick’s church with Rev. C. P. Conway in charge. Burial will be made at the Catholic cemetery.
The deceased was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Woodman lodges. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 23, 1925)
Tim Doyle, Tipton, and Miss Julia Doyle of Belle Plaine were here to attend the funeral of their brother Tom Doyle. His brother-in-law, M. H. Loftus of Tipton, four nephews, John Doyle of Cedar Rapids, J. P. O’Hara of Gl--, Minn., Edward Loftus of Dav—and John Doyle of Colfax were also here. Mrs. Doyle’s sister, Mary Doolittle, was unable to be her Thursday but arrived the last part of the week. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 30, 1925)
