Mrs. Hans Peterson [Petersen] Pioneer of City Died Last Thurs.
Another pioneer, Mrs. Hans [Karen C. Hanson Petersen] Peterson, died at her home on North eighth street last Thursday [December 24, 1936] afternoon after a long illness.

Mrs. Peterson was the wife of Hans Peterson, who with his brother Jesse [Jens] operated the Emmet House in this city. They remained in business in the city until the hotel was torn down after a fire. They, as a family, have been progressive and assisted in building up the city from the small village which it was when they arrived here.

Mrs. Peterson has taken care of business matters since the death of her husband. Personally we have known Mrs. Peterson for many years and know her worth and devotion to her family and friends.

The funeral services were held from the Mahlum and Anderson chapel at two o’clock on Sunday and from the Episcopal church at two-thirty, the Rev. Shelmandine officiating. Interment was made in the family lot at Oak Hill cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Walba Reid. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 31, 1936)
