Chris K. Nau, 77, Dies Today
Clothing Merchant Here for 40 Years
Chris Nau, 77, pioneer Estherville merchant, died 5:55 a.m. today in Holy Family hospital. Death was caused from complications from a gall bladder operation. He had been ill about three months.

Chris and his brother, K. K. Nau operated a clothing store in Estherville from 1898 until 1938, at which time they sold the business to Leuthold-Tibbetts company. His brother, K. K. Nau, still continues with the Leuthold-Tibbetts store. Chris has been manager of the state liquor store here for the past 10 years.

The deceased was born Dec. 19, 1871, in Hardanger, Norway, and received his education there and in Germany. He came to the United States in 1892, settling first in Chicago. He came to Estherville in the spring of 1898 and started the Nau clothing store soon after.

In 1906 he was married to Johanna Isakson who had come to Estherville from Bergen, Norway. He was a member of the Estherville Lutheran church and of Elks lodge.

Survivors include a son, Edgar of Miami, Fla.; a daughter, Lillian, Mrs. Eugene Fox of Ayrshire; his brother, K. K. Nau, and a brother and sister in Norway. He was preceded in death by three sisters.

Funeral arrangements have been postponed pending arrival of his son from Miami. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 4, 1949)

Nau Services Monday
Services for Chris Nau will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Sandin Funeral home with the Rev. L. G. Hinderaker officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery. Friends wishing to pay their last respects may do so by calling at the Sandin funeral home after 7 o’clock this evening and anytime until the time of service. Mr. Nau died yesterday morning of complications following an operation for gall bladder trouble. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 5, 1949)
