Alfred L. Misener Dies; Rites Tuesday
Alfred LeRoy Misener, 78, of Estherville died at 7:23 p.m. yesterday at the Holy Family Hospital of cancer. He had been ill for the past year and was hospitalized here for the past three months.
Mr. Misener was born June 17, 1883 at Faribault, Minn. to Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Misener. He received his education in the Faribault schools. On June 24, 1908 he married Flossie Holmes at Verona, Wis. and the couple had lived here since 1909. Mrs. Misener died in 1957.
An employee of the Rock Island Railroad for 44 years, Mr. Misener retired as a conductor in 1951. He was a member of the Order of Railroad Conductors and was a member of the Union Baptist Church.
He is survived by three sons, M-Sgt. Rogert Misener of Fort Knox, Ky., Gene of Brainerd, Minn.; and John of Whitewater, Wis., one daughter, Mrs. Herb (Margaret) Bergeson, Estherville, 19 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one son and a sister.
Family services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sternborg Reese Chapel and public services will be at 2 p.m. at the Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Rawlin Johnson officiating. Burial is to be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from Monday morning until 10 a.m. Tuesday when the casket will be taken to lie in state at the church. The casket will not be opened following the service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 23, 1961)
