Charles Miller Dead
The announcement of the death of Charles Miller on Sunday [August 24, 1902] last comes as a shock to his many friends. Mr. Miller had until lately been in his usual health but the disease – cancer of the stomach – which caused his illness and ultimately his death was incurable, and again is the community sorrowed by death. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, August 27, 1902)

Charles E. Miller died at the Birney and Wilson hospital at eleven o’clock Monday morning. He had been troubled with cancer of the stomach and for five weeks had suffered from an obstruction of the bowels. An operation was performed Sunday morning but he had gone without food so long that his heart gave way under the strain. He was fifty-one years of age at the time of his death and leaves a wife and eight children to mourn his death. He carried a $2,000 life insurance policy in the Modern Woodmen Order. Funeral services will be held today. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, August 27, 1902)
