Dave Huntley, 47, Succumbs; Rites Tuesday
Dave Huntley, 47, died of cancer Saturday at the Huntley home in Estherville. Huntley had been suffering from cancer of the lungs since March 3, 1951. He made a trip to Iowa City during this time but the disease had spread so rapidly that he could not be helped.He would have been 48 years old today.
Mr. Huntley was the oldest son of a family of seven children of Mr. and Mrs. Lon Huntley.
Born June 25, 1903, in Carroll county, his childhood was spent in and around Coon Rapids. At the age of 16 his parents moved to Wallingford and he has made his home in Emmet county ever since.
He was united in marriage Dec. 19, 1928, to Cordia Winters of Cylinder and four children were born to this union.
Mr. and Mrs. Huntley farmed for 17 years in Emmet county and on Feb. 2, 1945, moved to Estherville where they purchased a home on south Eighth street. Since then Mr. Huntley has been employed at the Davis Packing company.
Survivors are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Walter Anderson (Dorothy), of Gruver, Mrs. Charles Murray (Ardis) of Wallingford, and Ruth Ann; one son, Arnold; one grandson, Michael Anderson; his mother, Mrs. Bessie Huntley; four brothers, Darrell and Ben of Dolliver, Harold of Fairmont and Roy of Estherville and two sisters, Mae Zitterich and Ola Hansell of Graettinger. He was preceded in death by his father, Lon Huntley.
Services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home at 426 South Eighth street and 2:30 at the First Methodist church with the Rev. John DeLong officiating, assisted by the Rev. G. E. Forssell. Interment will be at Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 25, 1951)
