Mrs. Jas. Howe Passes Away
Dies Very Suddenly Sunday Evening at Her Home on North Seventh Street
Was an Old Resident Here
Death was the Direct Result of Blood Poisoning From Wound in Arm
The death of Mrs. James Howe on Sunday [February 25, 1917] came as a shock to the citizens of this city. It was not known she had been ill and as a matter of fact she had been ill but a short time. A few days before she fell down stairs and injured her arm, the wound in some manner became infected and blood poison set in. Medical assistance was called but the poison had obtained a footing in the system and it was beyond the power of medical aid. Death was directly caused by a blood clot stopping the heart action.

Mrs. Louisa Clarke Howe was born in the state of New York on November the twenty-ninth, 1859. She was united in marriage to James Howe at Ackley on September the twenty-fourth, 1874. To this union there were born four children, two of whom are still living, George Howe of Iowa Falls and Mrs. Thos. Brand of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The family are old and respected residents of this city, having moved here in the year 1885 and have resided here since that time.

The funeral services will be held this afternoon from the residence, the Rev. R. C. Mitchell officiating. The remains will be laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery.

The deceased leaves to mourn her death, a husband, a son, and a daughter, and a host of friends in this city. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 28, 1917)

Mrs. Jas. Howe Dies Suddenly Sunday Night, Following an Accident
Mrs. Jas. Howe died quite suddenly at her home in this city on North Seventh street Sunday night, her death resulting from a bad fall that she sustained, that injured her side, about a week previous to her demise. It was thought that her injury was not serious and she seemed to be gaining and Sunday evening she was able to be about the house. In the night, however, she suddenly grew worse and in a few minutes life was extinct.

Besides her husband a daughter, Mrs. Tom Brand, of Sioux Falls and a son, George Howe, are left to mourn the death of a loving wife and devoted mother. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 28, 1917)
