Death of Old Resident
Mrs. Otto Hoffman, who has been a resident of Emmet county and Estherville almost long enough to be one of the old residenters, passed away at her home on North Ninth street, on last Friday. Mrs. Hoffman was born in Rheinpfalz, Germany, on January 6, 1852. In April 1884, she was united in marriage to Otto Hoffman, and to this union there were five children born, four of whom are still living. Mrs. Hoffman was an active member of the German Lutheran church, and was always attentive to the religious duties thereof.

The deceased leaves to mourn her death, two sons, Carl Hoffman, who now resides in Seattle, Washington, and William, who is now located in Sterling, Ill. The two daughters, Mrs. Chas. Martinson [Martinsen], and Mrs. A. Shmool [Schmool], both reside in this city.

The funeral services were held on Sunday last, from the Lutheran church in this city, in charge of Rev. Poppe, of Terril. The remains were laid to rest in the Oak Hill cemetery. In the twenty years of their residence here the family have made a host of friends in this city who extend their sympathy in this their time of sorrow. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 19, 1916)

Note: per newspaper articles, Otto Hoffman returned to Germany about 1921 and remarried there in prox. December, 1922.
