Hugh Hagan Dies
Mrs. C. L. Hackett received word today that her father, Hugh Hagan, died last night at an Atlanta, Ga., hospital where he had been a patient since last December. The body will be flown to Estherville for funeral and burial Mrs. Hagan and her daughter, Mrs. Ray Reusche of Atlanta, will come by automobile. Hagan became ill shortly after he and Mrs. Hagan arrived in Florida to spend the winter. He was taken to an Atlanta hospital because his daughter lives there. He had been in a semi-coma for the past several days. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Fuhrman Funeral Home. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 7, 1969)

Hugh Hagan, 70, Estherville, Dies; Rites Scheduled
Hugh R. Hagan, 70, died at Atlanta, Ga., March 6. He had been ill for the past 2 ½ months after having been taken ill in Florida where they Hagans had gone to spend the winter. He was taken to an Atlanta hospital.

He was born March 18, 1898, in Clark County, Iowa, the son of William and Mary Hagan. He grew up and attended school in Clark County and Des Moines.

He was married March 29, 1920, to Mabelle Hollester at Cherokee. They farmed in the Cherokee and Storm Lake areas for 46 years until they retired in 1966 and moved to Estherville.

He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and, before coming to Estherville, was a member of the Methodist Church at Trusdale. Since living here the Hagans have been members of the First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mabelle, three daughters, Mrs. C. L. Hackett, (Rosanne) of Estherville; Mrs. Raymond Reusche, (Norma Jean), wife of Major Reusche, U.S. Airforce, retired, of Atlanta, Ga.; and Mrs. Roger Nelson (Virginia Lee) wife of Naval Commander Nelson of Hawaii; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Paul, of Omaha, and two sisters, Mrs. Beryl Folkenhainer, Des Moines, and Mrs. Rothard Carlson (Nancy) of Knoxville, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville, the Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. today and until time of services on Wednesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 10, 1969)

Relatives and friends here for the funeral of Hugh Hagen Wednesday were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hagan, Mr. and Mrs. John Curtis, and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Kalcon of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Shane, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Wicknett, Mrs. Blanche Proudfoot, and Robert Hagen of New Virginia; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gates and daughter of Cherokee; Mr. and Mrs. William Curtis of Albert city, and many friends from the Hagan’s former home in Storm Lake.
