John B. Hayden
Estherville – John B. Hayden, 78, died Monday, April 4, 1977, at Coal Valley, Ill., where he had been a resident of a nursing home since the death of his wife five years ago. He was a former resident of Estherville and Spirit Lake.

Chapel services were held in Moline, Ill., his home for many years, on Wednesday, April 6, in the Esterdahl Mortuary Chapel. The body was then returned to Estherville for Thursday graveside services and interment in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Hayden was born on a farm near Lone Rock on Nov. 4, 1898. He received his education in Lone Rock and Bancroft schools. He came to Estherville with his family as a young man and was married to Darice Fancher.

Later the family took residence in Spirit Lake, where he was employed with the Kraft-Walston Mens Clothing Store.

The family moved to Moline, Ill., in 1939, where he was employed in the New York Store as manager of the men’s clothing department, and later in Bloch and Kuhl’s Men’s Clothing.

Mr. Hayden is survived by one son, Jack Hayden, Moline, Ill.; many nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Mrs. Florence Smith and Mrs. Bert (Neva) Ditsworth, both of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darice, parents, one brother and three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 11, 1977)
