Ross Fouts, 77, Dies; Rites Set
Ross Fouts, 77, former Emmet County farmer, died Saturday [September 21, 1968] about noon at Good Samaritan Center. He had been in failing health for the past several years.

Ross Monrow Fouts was born March 3, 1891, on a farm near Armstrong, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Fouts. He attended the rural and Gruver schools.

He was married May 4, 1916, at Estherville to Mayme Hansen of Lamberton, Minn. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Fouts farmed near Gruver for several years and later moved to Estherville where he was employed by the Rock Island Railway. He retired in 1946.

Mr. Fouts was a member of the Union Baptist Church and the IOOF, both of Estherville.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Louise) Buhrow of Milford and Mrs. Harry (Betty) Torgerson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Frankie Wilder of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, Donald in 1957 and Melvin, who was killed during World War II in 1943 [1945].

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Union Baptist Church, Rev. Rawlin Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home until noon Tuesday when the body will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 23, 1968)
