The death of Mrs. C. B. Flindt last Monday [January 18, 1892] night cast a gloom over a beloved family and a large circle of friends. Mrs. Flindt was a noble hearted lady, a member of the Methodist church, and will be sadly missed in the neighborhood in which she resided. The fatal disease was la grippe and other complications. The funeral was held yesterday, Rev. Woodford being in charge. (Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, January 21, 1892)

Died - At her home in this place at 2 o’clock, Tuesday [January 19, 1892] morning, Mrs. Flindt, wife of C. B. Flindt, aged 45 years. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church yesterday afternoon and the remains were taken to Abbot for burial. Mrs. Flindt was the mother of eleven children, one of whom died in infancy. She suffered much in her last sickness but was very patient to the last. The husband who is thus deprived of a faithful wife and the children who are robbed of a mother’s care and love will certainly have the sympathy of the community in their affliction. (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, January 21, 1892)

Note: Maiden name noted as “Lathrop” in Minnesota death index entry for Bert Ben Flindt. More investigation shows that her name was Emily Lathrop. She was born June 5, 1846 in Indiana. She was first married to Robert Osborn, who died in the Civil War. Her 2nd husband was Christian Borgen Flindt. There is more information on the Lathrop family on the Hardin Co., IA, website.
